The infamous spooky tale ‘The Woman in Black’ is coming to the Waterside Theatre in Aylesbury this November.

Stephen Mallatratt’s adaptation of Susan Hill’s best-selling novel tells the story of a lawyer obsessed with a curse that he believes has been cast over his family by a ‘Woman in Black’.

He finds a young actor to help him tell his story, but as they delve further into the lawyer’s darkest memoirs, they find themselves caught up in a scary world where the lines between reality and make-believe start to blur.

The Woman in Black celebrated its 30th anniversary in London’s West End earlier this year and has been shown across the world in places as far as New Zealand and Japan.

Susan Hill said: “I think the great thing about the show is that it really does use the theatre, the stage, and it makes the audience work.

“Stephen Mallatratt’s writing makes you use your imagination, and that’s the brilliance of it and also what makes some elements all the more scary!”

Directed by Robin Herford, with designs by Michael Holt, and lighting by Kevin Sleep, this production is “a brilliantly successful study in atmosphere, illusion and controlled horror.”

The Woman in Black will be showing at the Waterside Theatre from November 26 to 30.
