She’s been coined Amersham’s Halloween Toy Lady and she is loved by anyone who trick or treats.

The 80-year-old, who lives in the town, handmakes cuddly toys to give to children whilst also giving them a sweet on October 31.

The popularity of the playthings has seen on average 200 children queue outside her house asking for a toy and for a piece of confectionery.

And the 80-year-old wouldn’t have it any other way.

She told the Bucks Free Press: “I used to live in Ealing and people used to do all sorts of things for the holidays.

“If there was a Royal wedding, flags would be out, Christmas, Easter, Halloween you name it, but when I moved here, no-one did anything for the latter.

“Nobody put pumpkins out or anything, so I thought I’d put a few pumpkins out and give the kids a few sweets, but I don’t know what made me start making the toys.

“I just thought, well, everyone gets sweets so why don’t I make a little witch’s hat or stockings, which I did for the first year and as the years went by, more and more kids came along.

“The lady opposite me I think put something out on Facebook and the next thing I know, children from all the different schools were coming to see.

“They literally queue up outside my house! There are hundreds of them!

“But I love it because the kids are so nice. They’re lovely kids. It was strange coming here and not seeing anything.”

Cuddly toys such as devils, pumpkins, witches, snakes and spiders have all been a popular hit with children across Amersham, with the toymaker revealing that new items will be available this year.

Toys such as owls, robots, cats and dolls which resemble Mike Wazowski from the popular Disney Pixar film Monsters Inc, will also be on show.

The Halloween lover has been doing this for the last 11 years and starts to make the toys in January.

She said: “My late husband thought I was mad! He had a clicker and every time a child went in and got a toy, he’d say, ‘that’s another one!’

“There have been times where we’ve run out of toys and sweets because we get so many kids come over.

“So every year I will say ‘I’ll make some more just in case’ but typically more children coming along.

“The kids are lovely and I love doing it.”
