Thames Valley Police have posted a five-step code on Twitter to help those with dogs on Bonfire Night.

Dogs usually show signs of being scared when the explosions take place, with some pooches losing their lives due to how frightened they can become.

Earlier this week, an 18-week-old puppy terrier in South Yorkshire died from a heart attack, after several fireworks set off.

The code states the following:

1 – Attend a local organised display

2 – If you do hold your own, let your neighbours know well in advance

3 – Limit your display to 30 minutes

4 – Opt for quieter fireworks

5 – If you have a dog, follow our advice to lessen their stress
