More than 1800 people took part in three Marlow Marathons on Sunday, November 3.

Collectively, more than 1800 people took part in the Marlow Half Marathon, Marlow 7 and Marlow Kids Kilometre, which was organised by the Marlow Striders.

Now in its 31st year, the Marlow Half Marathon saw people from all over the country take part as the money raised from the three races were donated to the charities of Bucks Mind and the Marlow Sports Club.

Mike Thompson, who was the race director for the event, told the Bucks Free Press: “I’m very pleased about the races and the key point for me is when the rocket goes off to start the race.

“There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes so when we see all the runners their starting journey, that is a huge tick in the box for us.

Many people of all ages took part in this race with one of the contestants being Alexa Broude.

Broude, who is from Bourne End, took part running three years ago and has taken part in several races across the country to raise money for various charities, which included doing a 56-mile run in aid of Great Ormand Street this summer.

Alexa, who participated in the Marlow 7, told the Bucks Free Press: “The Marlow 7 was brutal and challenging but it was so picturesque it was so beautiful.

“It was a lovely road race and I’ll definitely do it again.

“It’s quite funny because I actually forgot I signed up and it was a friend who reminded me so I’ve done no training for something of this level, but the route was amazing.”

“Running is addictive, it’s a fantastic sport and the amount that has been raised for charities through running is incredible.

Overall, 1700 people took part in the Marlow Half Marathon and Marlow 7 with 100 children taking part in the Marlow Kids Kilometre.

In total, over £210,000 has been raised for charities across the Marlow since the first Marlow Half Marathon took place 31 years ago.
