AN OXFORDSHIRE couple who died in a car crash in South Africa fell 75 feet into a river, an inquest has heard.

Susanna and Christopher Naylor, 54 and 57, were killed in the accident near Port Elizabeth last month.

An inquest at Oxford Coroner's Court has today revealed further information about their deaths.

This afternoon's preliminary hearing heard the car they was travelling in fell 75 feet into a river.

A post mortem examination concluded the married couple's cause of death to be 'blunt force injuries'.

Mr and Mrs Naylor, who lived near Chipping Norton, were travelling with two other friends to the airport when their car collided with a vehicle travelling in the same direction.

The car then came off Swartkops Bridge, Port Elizabeth.

A police investigation is now underway into the collision, however the coronor stressed this investigation was still in its early stages.

The couple were identified by their passport photos.

Mrs Naylor was head of science at Christ Church Cathedral School in Oxford, whilst her husband was CEO of Christian charity, A Rocha.

The couple were in South Africa doing charity work for A Rocha, a charity founded by Miranda and Peter Harris.

Mr and Mrs Harris were the two other people in the car at the time of the crash.

Mrs Harris, 66, also died whilst Mr Harris, 67, survived with injuries. The driver of the other vehicle also survived.

A full inquest into the couple's deaths is scheduled for April 28, 2020.
