Councillor and High Wycombe Mayor (2018/2019) Sarfaraz Khan Raja presented Horizon Sports Club with over £27,000 earlier this week.

Cllr Raja chose the club as the Mayor’s Charity during his year as Mayor and organised various fundraising events.

Along with his appeal committee he organised an evening with the Head of Formula One Sports, Ross Brawn, which alone raised almost £10,000.

Horizon Sports Club in High Wycombe is the only club in Buckinghamshire that offers a wide range of sporting opportunities to children and young people with disabilities, including: Ball skills, tennis, badminton, cricket and swimming.

Horizon Sports Club Chairman, Lesley Clarke OBE, said: “We are elated to receive such an amazing sum for our charity.

“I am proud of the fact that our trustees were actively involved in the fundraising and grateful to everyone who supported each event.

“We rely heavily on fundraising to ensure that we continue to develop the range of sporting activities to enable our members to get the full benefits of being active, so I would like to extend my sincere thanks to Cllr Raja for choosing us.”

Cllr Raja would like to highlight the work done by all the young people involved in volunteering with Horizon Sports Club and offer special thanks to them for all the effort they put in to help give these opportunities to other children and young people with disabilities.
