I have been into Wycombe’s Chiltern Taps many times but it surprised me that the last time I visited the Oxford Road restaurant was way back in January.

So, I thought it’d be a good idea to visit the popular Wycombe eatery to see what they were offering and with seven food menus to choose from, and I was spoiled for choice.

In the end, I chose three dishes from their main menu which were the southern-fried chicken goujons with sticky BBQ sauce (£4), their specially made pizza cone (£10.25) and their chocolate salted caramel torte for dessert (£3.25), whilst my guest started off with the chicken wings (£4), before moving onto the cheese and bacon beef burger and chips (£9.50) and finished with three scoops of vanilla ice cream.

The starters came in little to no time and were cooked to perfection.

The southern-fried chicken goujons with sticky BBQ sauce were incredibly crispy on the outside yet were succulent on the inside, whilst the chicken wings were marinated with spices and herbs, which really gave it a kick.

It was a great start to the meal.

Now, we move onto the beast that was the pizza cone.

The cone consisted of a wood-fired pizza base, topped with tomato, mozzarella and Cheddar, rolled then filled with chips, cheese sauce and streaky bacon, which was served with variety of dips.

For some reason, this didn’t sound like enough, so I opted add some more toppings which were pepperoni, mushrooms, peppers and red chillies.

And just like the starters, the mains came out quickly and when I first looked at the pizza, I was very confused on how to eat it.

This might sound strange, but, as the pizza was in the shape of an upside-down cone, I wasn’t sure if I was supposed to take it of the cone it came in, or, eat from the top onwards.

In the end, I opted to take it out of the cone and ate it from bottom to top, and it was beautiful.

All the toppings were mixed into one and with the chips being coated in the different cheeses, as they were situated at the bottom of the pizza.

The only issue (and it’s a minor issue) was that as the chips were too cheesy for my liking.

If anything, the chips should have come as a side to give the customer that option of having cheesy chips.

Other than that, the pizza was top drawer.

Moving onto my guest’s burger, he described it as ‘amazing’ as, ‘the beef was tender and with a thick layer of bacon on top, it was a great combination’.

So it was no surprise that both mains were gone in a matter of minutes.

Finally, their chocolate salted caramel torte was the best way to finish the meal, as it was incredibly light and soft.

All in all, my experience at the Chiltern Taps was a positive one and I’ll certainly be returning.
