Barriers on a steep High Wycombe hill are finally set to be repaired in December - after residents were left fearing there could be a serious accident for months.

Safety barriers on Cheviot Close and Cotswold Way were removed by Bucks County Council’s transport department so they could be replaced back in July, but the work has still not been completed.

Instead, cones and temporary pedestrian barriers were put out, but residents who live nearby said if a vehicle careered down the "perilous" drop, they could be at risk of being trapped in their own homes.

Sonni Murray Powell-Thorne, who lives in Cheviot Close, has complained multiple times that the barrier work has been left unfinished for months - but said the situation is getting more desperate as winter approaches.

He told the Bucks Free Press: "It is getting ridiculous. No one has been down here, nothing has been done at all. It was supposed to be finished in July.

"All the residents are disgusted. There are lots of elderly and disabled people living here and they all want answers.

"With winter coming and the roads getting icy it is going to be get more dangerous."

Transport for Bucks previously told the paper the work was delayed because of a cable strike by workers on the site.

A Transport for Bucks spokesman has now confirmed that the work is due to be started up again on December 2 - and should be finished before Christmas.

Bucks Free Press:

They said: "Unfortunately and as previously advised Transport for Buckinghamshire could not start work for the permanent barriers sooner as there is a high voltage cable very close to where the barriers are.

"This created a safety concern and due to the risk, the scheme was delayed until we had met with our supply chain partner, SSE, who could assist us with the cable issue.

"This has now happened and work for the permanent barriers to be installed will now start on 2nd December 2019 and is expected to be finished before Christmas. In the meantime a temporary safety barrier is in place."
