"Too many people have been violently attacked in Wycombe", Labour's parliamentary candidate has said - as he backs his party's plans to boost Thames Valley Police's gang unit.

Khalil Ahmed said residents are "really worried" about an increase in violent crime, which he says has "rocketed since the Tory and Lib Dem cuts began".

Thames Valley Police's violence reduction unit will reportedly be expanded if Labour wins the election, Diane Abbott, Labour's shadow home secretary and Richard Burgon, shadow justice secretary, have said.

It comes amid a reported 27 per cent rise in violent crime since 2010.

Labour is promising an average of 20 additional officers in each violent reduction unit across the country.

There are currently 18 police forces - including TVP - which such a unit.

Mr Ahmed said: "We’re all really worried about how violent crime has rocketed since the Tory and Lib Dem cuts began.

"Too many people have been violently attacked in Wycombe, youth violence has been on the rise.

"Boris Johnson and the Lib Dems have spent a decade supporting brutal cuts to Thames Valley Police. There’s no way we can trust them to support our police officers.”
