Wild Marlow are joining the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) for their traditional New Year's morning bird-watching walk around Little Marlow.

Taking place on New Year’s Day, the trek across the gravel pits and along the Thames will see the bird enthusiast try and spot as many winged creatures as possible.

The walk is approximately two miles long.

A spokesperson from Wild Marlow said: “We’ll be on footpaths that are often very muddy - Wellingtons strongly recommended and on the walk, there should be plenty of wildfowl and gulls.

“Also, they’ll be more than likely be wigeons, shovelers, gadwalls, teals, lapwings and snipes, with a chance of goldeneye or even goosander on this man-made lake and sand spit.

“There is woodland with common woodland birds.”

“In 2019 they recorded 60 species – hopefully we can do even better this time.”

It starts at 10am and walkers are expected to meet up at the Spade Oak car park on Coldmoorholme Lane.

Not long after the birdwatching walk, Wild Marlow will host a birdbox making workshop on January 11 between 10am and 12 noon.

Taking place at The Pavilion in Little Marlow, participants will be able to make their birdbox in time for the next nesting season in the spring.

Supported by Bisham Nest Box Group, the event costs only £6.00, which includes refreshments and your bird box.

A spokesperson from Wild Marlow then added: “Everyone is welcome and booking is recommended.”
