Thousands attend Marlow's Late Night Shopping event

Organised by the town’s Chamber of Commerce, the annual event saw the whole High Street get closed off where numerous stalls, which ranged from selling food, drink and clothes to name just a few, were erected so that the people of Marlow can officially start their Christmas shopping.

It is the 27th consecutive year that the town’s Late Night Shopping event has taken place.

A spokesperson from the MCoC said: “The atmosphere was wonderful with so many families enjoying themselves; being introduced to Peppa Pig and the Fairy Christmas stilt walker (who came all the way from London).

“We would like to thank Shanly Foundation for sponsoring the much-loved reindeer and to LGP Solicitors and Burgers for sponsoring the grotto.

“Father Christmas and his elves were in the grotto with his live reindeer munching their hay outside much to the interest and enjoyment of everyone.”

The night kicked off when musicians from Great Marlow School, along with children from several primary schools, took part in a carol service, where they were introduced by the Chamber President and then Rev. Roland Slade, who spoke to the children reminding them of the real meaning of Christmas.

On the night, entertainment was provided by the Marlow Operatic Society, Borlase Gospel Choir and the Casual Madness Band, with the latter amusing the town via Marlow FM’s stage.

The spokesman than added: “Thank goodness we were lucky with the weather although one of our members (CSL Digital) had kindly provided cover should we have been unfortunate enough to have rain.

“Shops were open and the many charity and commercial stalls up and down the High Street were well supported by the public – we understand many Christmas presents were purchased on the evening. Lots of food and drink was also available throughout the event.”

Next year’s event will take place on Thursday, December 3.
