UPDATE
Police rushed to shut down a road in Cippenham after a fire hydrant exploded meters into the air yesterday morning.
Water was shooting at least 10 meters into the air on the corner of Wood Lane and Telford Drive, flooding the pavements and roads.
It was at least an hour before police arrived and closed the road to traffic, creating a diversion past Westgate School back round to Asda – with wet tyres creating the path round.
Thames Water said the fire hydrant had broken when somebody tampered with it, but the team managed to fix it by the afternoon.
Thames Busses explained on Twitter that Little Chapels Way had been closed, which made the number 5 service run late.
Others took to Twitter to joke about the situation, saying “free car wash” and “Cippenham’s underwater”.
