A car was allegedly driven the wrong way down the M40 near Denham before crashing into a lorry on Tuesday night - and a teenager has been arrested.

Police are hoping anyone with dashcam footage of a silver Ford Focus with the partial registration MFZ9 driving the wrong way down the motorway near junction one and going round roundabouts the wrong way at around 8.30pm.

The car was trying to get away from police who reportedly saw it driving too fast.

The car eventually crashed into a lorry and the people inside the car - which was driving on false plates - fled.

A 19-year-old man from Slough was arrested on suspicion of driving a motor vehicle dangerously, theft of a motor vehicle, failing to stop a mechanically propelled vehicle when required by a constable, using a motor vehicle on a road/public place without third party insurance and going equipped for burglary.

He has been released under investigation.

Investigating officer PC Daniel Ryder of the Pro-active team based at Amersham said: “I am appealing for anybody who was driving on the M40 near junction 1 on Tuesday evening who witnessed this incident to make contact with police.

“I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have dash-cam footage of the silver Ford Focus colliding with the lorry and any person seen leaving the vehicle.
