A group of pensioners enjoyed a fun-packed festive celebration at The Highcrest Academy in High Wycombe.

The academy’s annual Senior Citizens’ Christmas Party on Tuesday, December 10 recorded one of the best-ever attendances with 69 visitors turning up to the school in High Wycombe.

On the day, the pensioners enjoyed a fine range of tea, sandwiches, cake, soft drinks and sherry.

The senior citizens also took part in a quiz, bingo and also sang Christmas songs.

Highcrest’s choir sang a selection of carols and then the cast of Bugsy Malone previewed three songs from the school’s end-of-term Christmas show.

Year 11 student Eduard Arion, 16, brought in his old record player and delighted the guests by playing a selection of 78 RPM songs from yesteryear.

He said: "I played them Vera Lynn and Glenn Miller from my own collection and afterwards they came up and thanked me for bringing in the records.

“Collecting this music is a hobby of mine.

“I don't listen to any modern music - I just like the old stuff."

The free celebration has become an annual highlight in the festive calendar for the local community.

The party is paid for via donations and fundraising from the students and staff.

Mrs Cilla Hillary, assistant head of the Sixth Form, said: “We have been holding these parties for many years but I believe this was one of our most successful-ever events.

“The attendance was excellent, and it was clear our guests had a great time.

“This is a wonderful tradition at our academy, and we are very grateful to the students for helping to organise this.”

There is also a summer party for senior citizens held at the school every year.
