The Royal Oak have thanked the people of Marlow after numerous residents took part in their Carol Service on December 22.

The popular pub, which are based on Frieth Road, have been shut since September after a fire destroyed large parts of the popular eatery.

In their statement, they said: “Our doors may not be open, but this certainly doesn’t mean we are missing out on the Christmas spirit! In fact, after the carols on Sunday, we could not be feeling any more love.

“Our thanks to everyone who made their way up (or down) the dark lane to our beautiful boarded-up pub at the weekend and joined in to become the Royal Oak choir - no bookings taken as yet - but still early days!

“However, we are humbled by how all the lovely folk of Marlow and beyond have reacted to the news of the fire and pub closure.

“We really could not have imagined the huge outpouring of love and support.

“We are pleased to say that the builders are due on-site early 2020 and we aim to open the doors sometime in May, barring any more disasters. Please follow us on social media for regular updates.

“Of course, if you are missing our famous Bubble and Squeak, our fabulous team or our warm hospitality then you will find many of us pulling a shift or two at our sister pub, The Alford Arms near Berkhamsted, and you will be very welcome to join us.

“In the end, all I want to do is say how much we appreciate all your support this last year.

“We are immensely proud to be an independent local business, supporting many Bucks, Beds and Herts suppliers and employing local folk and we can only do that because of your continued loyal and wonderful custom.

“And so, we end with a simple, but heartfelt thank you from all of us to all of you.

“We can't wait to get those doors open! See you in 2020!”
