New parking restrictions in a residential road blighted by school traffic could be put in place.

Knights Templar Way in High Wycombe has become a parking hot spot for parents picking up and dropping off their children to nearby St Michael’s Catholic School – to the frustration of residents living there.

And Bucks County Council has now said more parking restrictions in the road would be “beneficial” for residents – to stop parents parking there at all during peak hours.

There are already double yellow lines stopping parents from parking in parts of the road – but there could now be ‘no loading’ restrictions, meaning drivers on the school run cannot even stop there between the hours of 8am and 10am and 3pm and 5pm Monday to Friday.

A short section of the current double yellow lines could also be removed in favour of proper parking bays in a bid to meet demand whilst also encourage “lawful parking practice”, Bucks County Council has said.

There has been a string of complaints from residents in the past about parking near the school.

In March 2019, Steve Watts, a resident who lives near the Daws Hill Lane school said their lives were being made an “utter nightmare” by parents who had been showing “complete disregard” for them.

At the time, school head teacher Garret Fay admitted school pick-up and drop-off parking was an “ongoing issue” that he was trying hard to address with parents by reminding them to be responsible.

After being shown photos taken by Mr Watts, the head teacher wrote to parents once again.

Transport for Bucks – the county council’s transport arm – has been commissioned to review the parking restrictions in the road and now wants to hear views on the plans.

If you are a resident living nearby or a parent who parks in the road, you can have your say until January 24.

Carry out a survey online at www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/fctbf2p, email your views to parkingtro@buckscc.gov.uk or send them to Network Improvement Team, Aylesbury Vale Area Office, Corrib Industrial Park, Griffin Lane, Aylesbury, HP19 8BP.

Once the consultation is finished, a report will be prepared for the head of highways and Cllr Mark Shaw, who is head of transport on the county council for them to make a decision.

See democracy.buckscc.gov.uk/mgconsultationlistdisplay.aspx?bcr=1 for more details about the plans.
