The people of Marlow have shown their frustration after shattered glass, broken bottles and large amounts of litter were left on the town’s bridge, following the New Year's Day celebrations.

Hundreds of people from Marlow and the surrounding areas stood on the famous bridge to watch the town’s firework display at the Compleat Angler as the clock struck midnight.

But some celebrations got out of hand as the following morning, images showed that numerous pieces of litter and glass were seen on the road and on the bridge path.

One user on Facebook said: “Not a good way to start our New Year, but has anyone seen the state of our lovely Marlow bridge today [January 1]?

“Vomit, broken glass, broken bits of plastic glasses, debris and [it's a] general mess."

Another user added: “It’s disgraceful the way people behave.

“NYE is to celebrate, but to throw respect and morals out the window?

"Nope, shameful.

“No wonder the Marlow Wombles are kept busy.

“It would be nice if people who were drinking last night [New Year's Eve] and were on the bridge made the effort to go and clean it up today but that's the stuff of dreams.

One dog walker then said: “I could not even walk my dogs around town today as there was glass everywhere", whilst another user added: “I’ve just driven back over the bridge, on my way home from Somerset.

"A shame to see!”

After contacting Marlow Town Council, MTC said that they had put in a request to Buckinghamshire County Council for the bridge to be cleaned, as it’s the latter’s responsibility.

We have since contacted Bucks County Council for a comment.
