A woman is in a critical condition after she was hit by a car on the North Circular late this morning.

Police are investigating a hit-and-run which happened at Henly's Corner.

Following enquiries, one man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

The emergency services were called to the major junction at 11.50am where they found a seriously injured woman.

A Met Police spokesman said: "Police were called at approximately 11.50am on Monday, 20 January following reports of an altercation between the occupants of two vehicles at Henlys Corner, NW11.

"During the altercation a woman was struck by a car. The car then left the scene.

"London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance attended the scene and the woman was taken to a central London hospital for treatment; she remains there in a critical condition.

"At approximately 12.45pm, a car was stopped in Islington and a man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. He remains in custody.

"Enquiries into the circumstances remain ongoing."

The A406 North Circular is currently shut westbound as police investigate this morning's incident.

There are severe delays in both directions on the North Circular - eastbound between Brent Cross and Henly's Corner, and westbound from Colney Hatch Lane to the crash scene.

The A1 is also affected into Henly's Corner from the direction of Highgate, while streets in and around Finchley, East Finchley, and Golders Green are affected too by the A406 closure.
