Chiltern Voice FM have won a coveted 5 year full-time FM broadcasting license to provide a community radio station for the Amersham and Chesham area.

Nearly four years ago Chiltern Voice FM began with a short Ofcom license to test whether a radio station would benefit the Chilterns.

The concept came from community leaders Emily Culverhouse and Mark Rann, who teamed up with radio professionals David Rees and Phill Cannon.

Emily said: "We thought that the local area could do with a source of information that was accessible to everyone.

"Many people don’t have or use social media and a great deal of residents are lonely and isolated so we thought that a local radio station would be of benefit to the whole community”

They're 'delighted' to have received the full-time license, since they've been gaining more and more online listeners since April last year.

David Rees, Project Director said: “There has never been any doubt that Amersham & Chesham deserved and needed a local radio station, better still, media outlet.

"We are delighted to be the custodians to launch the radio station serving the Chiltern District.”

The station is run entirely by volunteers, many of whom like Emily and David have full time jobs, so present due to their passion for radio.

Emily added: “We have a solid management team behind us without whom we could not gone forward after the first short licence.

Writing the application was a whole project in itself and we know that we can’t function without this strong support.

We are truly grateful to the whole team and all our volunteer broadcasters and technical team.

This is just the beginning and we are gaining volunteers and listeners weekly.”
