Several Marlow residents are trying to get a court order so that a road in the town can get repaired.

Those who live on Westhorpe Road and Allanson Road have teamed together to challenge Bucks County Council so that the former, which is currently littered with potholes, can get fixed.

The residents have revealed that they are ‘sick of the constant battle for proper maintenance of the road’, and believe that the current state of the road is a danger to motorists, cyclists and pedestrians who frequently use the road.

One resident has said: “After many years of argument and temporary repairs to Westhorpe Road, we have finally decided to obtain a court order requiring BCC (Bucks County Council) to put the road into a safe state.

“It is currently potholed to a dangerous level and this state of disrepair has been repeated year in and year out.

“We are sick of the constant battle for proper maintenance of the road.

“Repairs are usually sub-standard and it is only a matter of weeks before holes start appearing again.

“Westhorpe Road is one of only two 'Restricted Byways' in Marlow, the other being Harleyford Lane, off the Henley Road and there is no comparison between the two byways, in terms of road surface, and in motor vehicle, pedestrian and cyclist usage.

“There are no footpaths or streetlights in Westhorpe Road and pedestrians, cars and bicycles all have to share the same space to traverse the road.

“It is an accident waiting to happen, where cars, pedestrians and bicycles have to dodge each other on a daily basis.

“Add to this the hazardous road surface which also forces users to make a meandering route round the potholes & you have the most dangerous road in Marlow bar none.

A spokesperson from Transport for Bucks said: “Although we cannot comment in detail on any matter subject to ongoing legal matters, it should be noted that Westhorpe Road is a private road and not maintainable from publicly funded maintenance budgets.”
