High Wycombe's newest Lidl supermarket is set to be finished in summer this year.

Fans of the budget supermarket have been looking forward to the opening of Lidl on the site of Homebase in London Road since it was given the go-ahead by Wycombe District Council in April last year.

And after plans seemed to stall, with little progress happening on the site in 2019, construction work finally got underway in 2020.

Bucks Free Press:

The work is being carried out by Quantum Construction, who will be giving the main building a makeover as well as building two "retail pods" next to the new supermarket.

And construction is due to be finished in summer 2020 - meaning Lidl fans will have to wait a little bit longer to get their weekly shop there.

Images appear to show the pods will be glass-fronted, with a trolley park in front of the main store and glass-fronted doors in and out of the supermarket underneath the pitched roof - which looks like it could be painted white.

At the moment, the main store is completely empty and the wall facing the London Road has been taken down.

Bucks Free Press:

There did not appear to be any work going on at the site when reporters visited this morning (Tuesday).

The new Lidl supermarket is set to be the fifth discount superstore in the town to be proposed or built in the town.

There is already an Aldi superstore in Desborough and another in Tannery Road in High Wycombe.

There is also a Lidl in Desborough and another rumoured for the Cressex Island site up by Next.
