Chiltern Citizens Advice have started a fundraising campaign to help reduce the isolation of the elderly.

The organisation, based in Chesham, set up their Advice at Home service in 2018 which offers face to face appointments to those over 65 in their own home.

Advisor, Max Molho, helps clients understand what help and benefits they can access.

Chiltern Citizens Advice have set up a crowdfunding campaign to support the service.

If they can raise £5000 in the next 24 days the council will contribute £2,500 which would allow the service to run for the next financial year.

Sine 2018 110 clients have benefited form the home visits.

The organisation particularly helped 90-yea-old Gladys who lived alone.

Her bedroom was damp and she struggled to move around.

She received her state pension, a small amount of housing benefit and council tax reduction.

Citizens Advice applied for pension credit to top up her income and attendance allowance to pay for care needs at home such as hand rails. Gladys was entitled to money off heating bills with the warm home discount and was referred to the affordable warmth scheme which meant a tradesperson would fix the damp.

In total £6,400 of financial support was given to Gladys.

With the money the organisation plan to provide home visits to over 200 more people and hold an open morning to inform more people about the Home Advice service.
