Survivors of domestic abuse in Bucks and their children will be given essential, life-saving support, the government has revealed - as it announced councils will share a £2.1 million funding boost.

Bucks County Council is one of nine across the country to receive a portion of the cash to help survivors access the help they need as they move towards a safe future.

The new funding will help victims and their children to stay safe, recover from the trauma, and access safe permanent rehousing where needed.

Bucks County Council will get £70,000.

Communities Secretary, Robert Jenrick MP, said: “Domestic abuse destroys lives and leaves victims living in fear in their own homes – the place where they should feel most safe and secure.

“No victim of domestic abuse should have to struggle to get the right support, or wait months for help that they need.

"This new funding of £2.1 million will help councils in the south east better protect victims and their children and provide essential life-saving services, delivering the urgent support that they need to rebuild their lives.”

The government says the cash will put an end to the "postcode lottery" of support for those fleeing abusive relationships.
