Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway was given a surprise royal Valentine's Day present last week.

The railway has been able to offer a home - at "very short notice" to a royal train locomotive.

The 60-year-old, 50-ton engine, along with the royal train, was based in Wolverton, Milton Keynes.

It was regularly seen hauling the royal train between Wolverton and the West Coast main line.

On February 14, the locomotive departed from Wolverton on a low loader - arriving at Chinnor a few hours later.

Stan Hart, chairman of The Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway returned from a holiday to be told of the arrival said: “I can’t even go away for some winter sun without coming back to a right royal railway surprise.

"This locomotive with impeccable royal connections is a very welcome addition to our volunteer run heritage railway”.

The locomotive has been privately purchased and the new owner will initially base it at the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway.
