The Morrisroe's family from Gerrards Cross, have raised a massive £11,521 for Helen & Douglas House, just six months into their year’s fundraising challenge to celebrate 10 years of care and support from the charity to say thank you.

Patrick, aged 19, who has a life shortening condition, enjoyed respite stays with his family at the children’s hospice in Oxford as well as support at home for 10 years.

He turned 19 on in September 2019 so enjoyed his last stay at the hospice two weeks before his 19th birthday, as Helen & Douglas House cares for children up to 18 years old.

His parents Sharon and Jim and siblings Ellie, 21, Finn, 15, Niamh, 13, and Cian, 8, vowed to raise £10,000 from September 2019 to September 2020 and they have already surpassed their target six months in.

Sharon Morrisroe said: "As a family we are organising fundraising activities to say thank you to Helen & Douglas House for caring for Patrick.

"We are so grateful for 10 years of care & support. This has also been such a positive experience for our other children too.

"With Helen & Douglas House’s support and medical guidance, we have been able to look after Patrick at home, where we all feel happiest.

"Helen & Douglas House has given us the opportunity and space to create special memories to treasure during the most difficult of times.

"Since the closure of Douglas House, we felt it was so important to raise funds to ensure Helen & Douglas House remains open and continues to care for children like Patrick and families like ours.

Alison Stone from Helen & Douglas House said ‘We want to say a massive thank you to every member of the Morrisroe family, who has raised this fantastic amount of money and to everyone who has donated. We need to raise £3.6m a year to provide care to families like the Morrisroe’s and we cannot do this without donations and wonderful people like them fundraising so we are so very grateful to them for all they are doing to raise money for us.’
