A beleaguered Sikh ethos school that received an 'inadequate' rating from a recent Ofsted inspection has had more unwelcome news.

An Ofsted inspection gave Khalsa Academy Trust a shattering 'inadequate' rating only weeks ago - expressing concerns about the safeguarding of pupils.

Now a formal notice has been sent to the chair of the trust, that runs Khalsa Secondary Academy school at Hollybush Hill, Stoke Poges. It comes from the Government run Education and Skills Funding Agency, demanding improvements to the trust's financial management.

It says: "This letter and its annex serves as a written notice to improve financial management, control and governance of the trust. It reflects the continued concern over the governance, management and oversight of the trust by the board of trustees'.

It puts the school in the uncomfortable position of having to run its financial decisions past the ESFA until improvements have been made.

The letter was sent to the chair of the Khalsa Academy Trust Sharminder Kaur Rayatt - who insisted this week: "We want to stress that there is no suggestion that there has been any fraudulent activity or financial malpractice in the trust. In fact, our trust, despite the challenges that the education sector is facing, is in a strong financial position. Question marks have, however, been raised about how the trust’s finances are monitored by our trustees and members.

"Given that these are volunteer positions, it is right that we support and enhance this group of individuals who already do so much for our schools.

"We have therefore appointed three new trustees, which includes an individual who has a 30 year career in risk, governance and compliance in the highly regulated financial and payment services industries, to bolster this body. In addition, we were already working on the areas highlighted in the Financial Notice to Improve and are already in much stronger position."

But inevitably there has been angry reactions on social media - with calls for Nick Kandola the trust's CEO to resign.
