TWO women were killed in a car crash last night.
A white Ford Focus and a purple Renault Zoe left the road on the A27 near Chichester, west of the Fishbourne roundabout, and crashed into trees alongside the eastbound carriageway.
An air ambulance was called to the scene at 10.10pm, with emergency services from Sussex and Hampshire in attendance.
Two passengers in the Zoe, an 80-year-old woman and a 75-year-old woman, both from Chichester, were pronounced dead at the scene.
A 27-year-old man from Emsworth, who was driving the Focus, suffered potentially life-threatening head injuries and was taken to Southampton Hospital.
The other passengers in the Zoe suffered minor injuries and were taken to Portsmouth Hospital for treatment.
A section of the eastbound carriageway was closed until 8am this morning while recovery and investigation work was carried out at the scene.
Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash cam footage, or saw either of the cars in the time leading up to the crash is asked to email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk and quote Operation Larkhill.
