A pharmacist in Marlow has expressed her anger that hand sanitiser is being sold for an extortionate amount of money amid coronavirus fears.

This comes after users on websites such as eBay are selling the substance for as high as £1,500.

Last week, the Urgent Treatment Centre at Wycombe Hospital was temporarily shut due to coronavirus fears whilst the Simpson Centre in Beaconsfield was also briefly closed to a potential scare.

But Alexandra Nae, who is a pharmacist at Boots in Marlow, exclusively told the Bucks Free that ‘people cannot get desperate’ as the coronavirus continues to spread across Europe at a rapid pace.

She said: “I’m not feeling happy [at hand sanitiser being sold at high prices] because it is not fair and people need to think a little bit.

“These people who are selling the hand sanitiser for that amount of money are thinking like a business and that is not very fair.

“But karma could hit them as if they were to sell a lot of hand sanitiser, they might not have any for themselves so karma could hit back at them.”

Currently, there have been 94,391 cases of the illness worldwide with there being 3,221 deaths.

And on Saturday, we exclusively revealed that a 26-year-old man from Chesham was one of the first from the county to be diagnosed with the illness.

But Alexandra is urging people to keep calm and do simple things like washing hands as much as possible.

She continued: “To be scared is not a good side of the problem and to start to prevent, start to protect.

“Prevention is the first thing that people can do so if you wash your hands as much as you can, that is very important, and the alcohol will kill any germs so using sanitiser is very important.

“And I completely understand and agree with people that they are scared, but people cannot get desperate.

“Wearing a mask and washing our hands is very important and it’s not just for now, it’s for the future too.

“And at this moment, loads of people are coming in and are asking for hand sanitizer and I mean loads.

“It’s not just hand sanitiser - it’s hand gels too."
