Residents are concerned due to the closed underpass near Sainsburys in Chesham, which is badly flooded.

The underpass serves as a way for people to avoid crossing the busier roads, and is ideal for disabled or older members of the public.

Residents slammed the council on twitter, expressing how this has been an issue for years with one user saying: "It’s always like this when it rains why has the council not fixed it.

"Always closed when it rains as it floods what's the point of having this subway."

Many think that the water is a health hazard due to the litter and the fact it's stayed there for a number of weeks.

The Bucks Free Press spoke to a representative from Chesham Town Council.

They explained that the underpass is the responsibility of Bucks County Council as well as the pumping system, which appears not to be working.

They added: "We've reported it to Bucks County Council.

"Other than that our hands are tied."

Transport for Bucks said: "Transport for Buckinghamshire (TfB) is aware of the ongoing flooding problems within the St Marys subway in Chesham.

"TfB has investigated the issues here and has discovered that the drains beneath the road are blocked.

"This is preventing the water from being pumped out of the subway.

"We are making arrangements for the drains to be cleared and for the subway to be reopened as soon as possible."
