A "contact" of a High Wycombe grammar school pupil has reportedly tested positive for coronavirus - but the school will stay open.

Royal Grammar School head teacher Philip Wayne announced the news in a letter to parents - seen by the Bucks Free Press - today (March 10).

The letter reads: "The school has taken advice from PHE and the DfE this morning.

"Advice is clear, in that any secondary contacts of an infected person do not need to take action unless they start showing symptoms.

"These symptoms are a fever, a dry cough and shortness of breath.

"Should you, or any of your family, exhibit these symptoms or have any concerns, please call NHS 111 or use the online service and follow the advice given."

He added that the Amersham Road school has been advised by Public Health England and the Department for Education that the school does not need to shut and should continue to "operate as normal".

The letter added: "We thank you for your support at this time, and we are grateful to both parents, staff and students for helping us to maintain a calm and controlled response.

"We will continue to monitor the situation diligently and if we have any updates from PHE or the DfE will inform you as appropriate."
