DOZENS of secondary school pupils enjoyed a visit last week from a rap artist who sets Shakespeare’s love sonnets to hip hop music.
Devon Glover, known as the Sonnet Man, led a three-day workshop for Year 7 students at The Highcrest Academy in High Wycombe last week, inspiring students to perform their own poems.
Devon provides a ‘hip hop Shakespeare fusion’ sessions for schools and organisations across the country.
In all, 179 Highcrest pupils attended the innovative sessions, which are part of a project in partnership with the Story Museum in Oxford.
Elisabeth Byard-Jones, from the Hatters Lane school’s English department, said: “It’s a revelation to us. Students were definitely inspired by this approach to poetry.
“They were all engaged and enthusiastic to produce their own sonnets.”
