A south Bucks foodbank says it is facing "serious challenges" as demand grows amid the coronavirus crisis.

One Can Trust, which looks after those in need across High Wycombe and as far as Marlow, Princes Risborough and parts of south Bucks, has urged people not to forget about them as the coronavirus pandemic rages on.

It says it is "facing serious challenges" and is urging residents and organisations to "pull together".

One Can Trust is currently seeing a reduction in food donations and volunteer numbers, alongside an increase in need as the impact of the coronavirus crisis grows.

Graham Peart, chairman of One Can Trust, said: "“We all need to look after ourselves and our families but please also remember the wider community during these difficult times.

"This crisis is not only making things worse for the hundreds of families and individuals who already use our service, but we’re also seeing a rise in demand, especially with schools now closed.

"There are a number of ways you can support, but cash donations would be most helpful.

"This will enable us to be as efficient as possible by reducing the risk through handling donated goods, while building up a ‘war chest’ for what’s to come.

"Whatever you can afford would go a long way and the details are on our website. We’re also in desperate need of a large quantity of bags for life – something we don’t want to waste much-needed funds on buying."

The organisation is also asking for volunteers to come forward.

Graham added: “Our volunteers are incredible people and the ones who keep this service going. A number of them are elderly, some are having to self-isolate and we need back-up so we can maintain the service.

"Even if you can help for just a couple of hours a week, you’ll be making an important contribution during this crisis and we’d urge you to contact us.

"We’ll need people who can do a range of things, including help with general admin tasks, such as answering phones.

"I’d also like to reassure everyone that we are absolutely following all hygiene guidelines to minimise the risk of spreading the virus."

The Trust also continues to run donation points from most local supermarkets.

All details for donations making cash donations can be found on the website www.onecantrust.org.uk/donate/donate-money/.
