A man who lives in Marlow has spoken out about his experience after he was diagnosed with the coronavirus.

Matt Dockray, 39, started to get the symptoms at the end of February but after getting what he thought was the flu, Mr Dockray admitted that, ‘he didn’t leave his couch for five days’, where he was ‘struggling to stay awake and breathe properly.’

After being admitted to hospital, he was put into an ICU.

He has since been discharged from hospital and is now back home in Marlow. 

Speaking to Sky News, Mr Dockray, who is originally from Wakefield, said: “I think you don’t believe you can have it and you think it’s just a normal flu.

“I commute in and out of London so there’s every opportunity I could have picked it up, but it just felt like a really bad flu and I wouldn’t just believe that I had it.

“I was still going to work at the time, and I was doing everyday jobs to the point where I couldn’t do it. 

“It was quite dramatic.” 

Speaking on his experience in hospital after contracting the illness, he said: “You’ve got no family with you, you don’t know what’s going on, no-one can explain it to you, you can’t hear people properly as they’re talking through masks.

“It was very terrifying.”

As of today (March 30), there are currently 128 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Buckinghamshire. 

So far globally, there have been 737,577 cases of the illness with there being exactly 35,000 deaths. 

In total, 156,295 people have recovered from the virus, which includes Mr Dockray.

He continued on Facebook: “The response and positivity remain overwhelming but hopefully the message comes through loud and clear.

“Some of you are going to get a few mild symptoms and others are going to be amongst thousands that don’t make it through. 

“Why leave it to chance or risk loved ones suffering the worst fate.

“I didn’t ask, wish or crave any of this attention but if it’s helping understand what a horrendous virus this is then I will do what I can to spread the word. 

“Thank you again for every single, share, message, like and virtual hug.
