With sunny weather predicted for the bank holiday weekend, Buckinghamshire Council is urging residents to stick with the government’s advice to stay at home this weekend.

Although this Easter weekend is likely to be a very different bank holiday to what most people are used to, the council has some great ideas for making it a fun and productive time:

Buckinghamshire Council’s Executive Portfolio Holder for Health and Culture, Cllr Gareth Williams, said: "With warm, sunny weather forecast for the bank holiday weekend, there's bound to be a temptation for people to head for the countryside.

"However, as per the government's advice, I would ask people to stay at home to help reduce the risk of the coronavirus spreading in our community and overwhelming our NHS.

"If you need to go outside for reasons like exercise and shopping, please stick to the social-distancing guidelines.

"Of course, just because we're spending most of our times at home, doesn't mean we can't enjoy ourselves. Now could be the perfect time to start a new hobby or to learn a new skill.

"And for those with young children, the Easter colouring challenge is sure to be a fun and rewarding thing to get them involved in.

"Normally, bank holidays are also the time for catching up with family and friends, but this year, this is clearly much more difficult.

"However, we all know how important this is. Fortunately, we have such great technology that can help us to do this with phone and video calls. So don’t forget to call - and also check in with your neighbours where you can.

"Please also consider donating to a local food bank. The easiest way to do this is to pick up some additional items during your essential shopping trip – and then simply drop these items into the supermarket donation baskets.

"Finally, I wish to say a big thank you to everyone in Buckinghamshire for staying home, protecting the NHS and saving lives."

Buckinghamshire Council's online services will continue to be available over the bank holiday weekend.

In addition, the 24/7 emergency line and the coronavirus customer enquiry line will both be available.
