Two young Bucks residents have been recognised at the Young Audio Awards.

Becca Beavington a Year 13 pupil and Kai Randles a Year 10 pupil at the Global Academy pupil who have both scored a national award win at the “Young Audio Awards” – picked up by judges across the media industry.

Becca, who lives in Gerrards Cross, was awarded Gold in the BBC Sounds Rising Start 16-18 category while Kai, who lives in Chesham picked up Gold in the Technical Excellence Award.

They received their award via a live web stream from radio presenters Greg James (BBC Radio 1) and Swarzy (KISS FM).

Both students are studying media, broadcast and digital production – and specialise in radio, at the Global Academy in Hayes.

They are actively involved in the school radio station and have sourced a lot of work experience with key industry players like Global Radio (owners of Heart, Capital and Smooth Radio) alongside their studies.

Global Academy in Hayes, Hillingdon aims to prepare students for a career in the media and to widen the talent pool by providing opportunities for young people to access an exciting industry that they may not otherwise be able to alongside studying GCSE and A Levels.

Becca Beavington said: “I’m so happy to have won a Young Audio Award! I love being on air and it’s given me so much confidence.

"Becca is a shining example of the talent at Global Academy! She gets involved in work experience, networks with guest speakers and has her own radio show on the school radio station too – she has a bright future ahead of her in the creative media industry”.

Global Academy received a total of six nominations and secured three awards in total.

The judging panel for the Young Audio Awards, which comprises experts from across the radio and audio industries, including those who work behind the scenes and on-air talent, were looking for passion, enthusiasm, and in-depth knowledge from entrants, as well as skills including script writing, presenting, news-gathering, and editing and producing.
