They are trying to get as many walkers as possible to join them, with each walker pledging to walk a certain distance and donating £1 per mile walked into our bandroom appeal fund.

A representative from the band, Caroline, said: "Each spring for the past 3 years we have set a walking/fundraising challenge, including walking the 300km of the Thames Path from Gloucestershire to London and last year the Chiltern Heritage Trail around Buckinghamshire.

"This year we have not been able to walk together but we have set a challenge of walking 500 miles during lockdown, coincidentally the distance from Amersham to Bensheim our twin town in Germany. Everyone is walking individually with social distancing during their daily exercise.

"Each mile is logged and £1 donated, you could say we are piling on the £'s not the Ilbs!"

They started the challenge on May 1 and hope to finish by the end of the month.

They are 372 miles into the challenge with members of the Bensheim twinning society also joining in and contributing miles and funds.
