Fresh plans to build flats on the site of a former High Wycombe furniture factory have been revealed this week.

Developers have been trying to build new flats on the former JC and MP Smith factory site in Princes Gate since at least 2010, but none have yet been forthcoming.

The most recent plans, submitted last year, saw developers wanting to build 39 flats - but those proposals have been amended after detailed discussions with the council, with the new number being 35 flats instead.

Developers Eaglefield Limited admit that trying to get flats built on the former factory site has been difficult, describing previous plans that were approved by the council in 2015 as "fatally flawed", adding that they could "never be lawfully constructed".

Planning officers have been sceptical about the revised 2019 plans for the flats, so new plans have been submitted this week.

The fresh plans will see 35 flats built, with a lower ground floor, ground floor and three upper floors.

There will be one three bed flat, 21 two-bed flats and 13 one bed apartments, all with a balcony or private terrace.

There will also be a basement car park on the sloping site, with spaces for 36 cars and storage for 68 bicycles.

Developers admit in the plans that the side of the building facing London Road will be "prominent in the views from the gardens of neighbouring properties".

No objections to the revised plans - which were uploaded onto the Wycombe area planning portal on May 18 - have yet been lodged, but some neighbours were not happy with the size of the development.

One London Road neighbour said he was not against the redevelopment of the site, but said the proposed buildings were "massive - and considerably more so than even the factory previously on the site".

The High Wycombe Society has also supported neighbours' objections.

Developers say there will be big efforts to shield neighbours' views of the flats with green walls and roofs with more tree planting and bird and bat boxes on the site.
