VULNERABLE Bucks residents who have needed extra social care during the coronavirus crisis will not be charged for it.

This comes after NHS England agreed a £1.3 billion bailout to meet the needs of those most affected by the pandemic.

However, this funding only covers the 12 weeks up until June 30 — meaning some residents could have to pay for their extra care from July 1.

A Buckinghamshire Council report read: “Although there has been no specific guidance on when the emergency will end, the expectation is for it to last at least 12 weeks in line with guidance on shielding vulnerable members of the public.

“However, once the emergency period has concluded, the expectation is for those clients to start contributing to the cost of their care as part of business as usual.”

The NHS England funding means the council does not lose millions of pounds in providing care for its vulnerable clients who have been provided with new, additional care or changes to their long-term support during the covid-19 period.

Buckinghamshire Council stands to get more than £3.4 million from the NHS pot to cover the expenses it will incur from this additional strain.

The authority nodded through this decision on Thursday, June 4.
