Limited parking, restricted toilets and hand sanitiser stations - these are just some of the measures Eden Shopping Centre will be putting into place as some stores prepare to reopen on Monday.

Eden's centre director Andrew Norton says shoppers are going to have to co-operate with a string of new measures put in place for everyone's safety as many stores reopen their doors on June 15.

The measures include limiting parking spaces, new signage and one-way systems, hand sanitiser stations and restricted use of stairwells, lifts and escalators.

Retailers including M&S, Superdrug, Boots, Holland and Barrett, Grape Tree, Poundland, Specsavers, Lloyds Bank and Metro Bank have remained open throughout lockdown to provide the community with essential services.

River Island, New Look, GAP Outlet, Beaverbrooks, Superdry and Deichmann are just some of the stores that have confirmed they will re-open on Monday, June 15.

This is what Mr Norton said about Eden's reopening safety measures:

“The way we all shop is going to feel different for a while and we’re going to need everyone’s co-operation to help keep people safe. After all, our priority is our customers’ and our colleagues’ health.

“With this in mind, we’re introducing a range of safety initiatives that we will need everyone to follow. From time to time, this may mean that customers are inconvenienced, and we ask everyone to bear with us during this unprecedented period.

“Please also be aware that not all stores will be able to open straight away, we urge customers to check our website regularly in order to find the latest information relating to individual opening times.

"Some stores may also need to close temporarily if they become too busy, need to re-stock or just need to reset their safety procedures.

“In addition, we will be limiting car park spaces in order to help manage the number of people in the centre. This will be reviewed regularly as the situation progresses.

“To ensure a safe shopping experience we ask that wherever possible, customers shop alone. Only bring one other person from the same household, if you need special assistance or if you need to bring your children with you.

“Customers will notice, on arrival, that we have introduced new signage around the centre. We urge shoppers to take time to familiarise themselves with the instructions.

"Some entrances may be restricted to allow for one-way systems implemented. Shoppers will continuously be reminded to stay at least two metres apart and there will be designated queuing areas.

"We ask everyone not to join queues that extend beyond the designated area.

“The use of stairwells, escalators and lifts are heavily regulated. Shoppers will find full instructions at each area.

“Individual stores will implement their own in-store safety guidelines.

“As you might expect, we'll be doing extra cleaning and sterilising to make the whole centre as safe as possible for everyone.

“Hand sanitisers will be stationed throughout the centre and in stores, many stores will also have new protective screens at key points such as checkouts.

“Customers must ensure that used protective masks and gloves are deposited safely in the waste bins provided.

“The use of toilets will be restricted and will have a maximum capacity at any one time. Some cubicles may be closed in order to help us manage hygiene.

"Customers may have to wait longer than usual to use these facilities. Please bear with us.

“Finally, we’d like to say a massive thank you to all our essential workers that have kept key stores open and running while we’ve been in lockdown, and to all the NHS and other key workers that have truly gone the extra mile over the past few months.”
