Plans have been put forward to turn High Wycombe's famous strip club into a house - but the pub's manager said he is not "losing any sleep" over it.

The White Horse in West Wycombe Road could be turned into a 13-bed house in multiple occupation (HMO) if the new plans submitted this week are given the green light.

But Alastair Watts, who runs the strip club, says he is not worried about the plans, adding that he believes the new landlord is just trying to "establish the value of the site".

The proposals have been put forward by Streamdown Properties Ltd, a company based just down the road at the Buckingham Hotel.

Mr Watts told the Bucks Free Press changing the popular pub into a house is just "not going to happen" and that they have a long renewable lease on the building which will work in their favour.

He said: "Lots of pubs are probably not going to reopen after this [pandemic], but we have been busy making plans for new carpets and new furniture for when we reopen."

The fresh HMO plans show that if given the go-ahead, there would be two bedrooms, a cycle store and lockers in the basement, six bedrooms, a living room, kitchen and toilets on the ground floor and five bedrooms on the first floor with a balcony, living/dining room, kitchen and toilets for each room.

In a letter to Buckinghamshire Council - who will ultimately decide if the plans go ahead - the agents acting on behalf of the applicant said: "We believe this form of development will provide much-needed accommodation and respect other similar uses within the vicinity.

"The current public house offers little to the locality and its closure will boost the trade of other local pubs."

The existing six parking spaces will be kept, with the agent adding: "This will be more than adequate for 13 bedrooms, given the site is in zone A... there are many HMO uses within the immediate area with reduced parking and this does not cause any issue as occupiers often do not have cars."

The White Horse has been running for 150 years, and has had striptease dancers for the last 35 years - which has made the pub a popular destination.

The pub is also famously where US band Kings of Leon played their first UK gig when they were starting out in 2003.
