More than a thousand people have so far called for the speed limit on a busy A-road where two cyclists were killed this month to be lowered.

A petition has been launched to lower the speed limit on the A40 Wycombe Road between Studley Green and West Wycombe following the deaths of much-loved community figures and keen cyclists Damien Natale and Andy Coles on June 1.

The pair had been cycling along the road on their way back home to Haddenham when they were hit by a car.

They were sadly both pronounced dead at the scene. The driver is helping police with their enquiries.

There is no suggestion at this stage that their deaths were caused by speeding and the crash is still being investigated by Thames Valley Police.

Their tragic deaths are not the first to happen on this stretch of road.

In August 2018, High Wycombe motorcyclist Wlodzimierz Kasperowicz, 32, also died in a crash there.

So far, 1,081 people have signed an online petition calling on Buckinghamshire Council to lower the speed limit from national (60mph) to 40mph through Studley Green.

The petition cites the "recent double road traffic fatality and numerous other accidents on this particular stretch of road".

The petition was launched on June 10 and runs until July 8, when it will be submitted to the council for consideration.
