Parents who were looking forward to the arrival of their baby boy were left devastated after hearing the news no one wants to hear - that their son had died.
Mairead McAlpine and Harry Evans' world came crashing down on May 18 when they were told the beautiful boy they were due to welcome in just weeks was going to be born sleeping.
The heartbroken pair, who live in High Wycombe, are now speaking out and sharing their story in a bid to raise vital awareness about stillbirth and raise cash for Wexham Park Hospital.
Mairead, who is originally from Slough, was taken to be induced at the hospital's labour ward on May 21 and at 3.24pm, welcomed their third precious son into the world, William Joseph Peter Evans, weighing 6lb 7oz.
She said: "The three of us then got to stay in the Willow Suite, the bereavement suite of the labour ward, designed for parents who, like us, have to endure the heartbreak of not leaving the hospital with your perfect new arrival.
"Harry and I were blessed to have four days with our gorgeous boy here, and were overwhelmed by the love and care we received by the staff who looked after us in our time of need.
"Those four days allowed us to spend time with William and create memories with him, having his footprints and handprints done, having photos, having casts made of his perfect hands and feet, part of the reason we could have that time was due to his cuddle cot."
A cuddle cot is a special cooled unit where grieving parents can keep their stillborn child for a while, instead of them being taken to the morgue - giving them precious days to say goodbye.
The cuddle cot was a comfort to Mairead and Harry and they are now raising money to buy another for Wexham Park Hospital.
They currently cost around £1,500 each.
Mairead said: "At present there is only one in the unit, unfortunately whilst we were in with William another mummy lost her baby.
Sadly unlike us, who were able to stay with William from birth, this lady had to go home and come back once we had left to spend time with her sleeping baby.
"We would like to contribute towards raising money for another cuddle cot for the Willow suite at Wexham."
So far, the grieving parents have managed to raise more than £6,500 and have set a target of £8,000.
Mairead added: "Nothing will ever take away the pain of losing a child, but we can at least give parents a few extra precious hours/ days with their baby."
Harry also ran a 5k at 5am in honour of the early starts and sleepless nights they should have been having with newborn William.
