Following a discussion at a council meeting about “what is happening internationally, nationally and locally” in regard to the demonstrations, one councillor asked bosses if anti-discrimination policies could be made a priority at Buckinghamshire Council.

Gareth Williams, the council’s communities and public health boss, responded: “It’s very important we engage with any racial or other discrimination and we stamp it out.

“There’s no tolerance for that.

“We will be including in our comprehensive member’s training equality and diversity training.

“It’s very comprehensive and a very necessary part of what we do as ambassadors for our communities.

“As a council, we take our duties extremely seriously.

“We have an equalities policy, which we actually agreed as a shadow authority and that was done back in March.”

An officer added the training will be moved online due to restrictions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

The discussion took place at a meeting of the communities and localism committee on Thursday, June 18.
