A 'bug hotel' in a Amersham park has been burnt and vandalised.

Amersham Town Council posted on their twitter regarding the incident, they said: "We were truly saddened to see the bug hotel that formed part the Community Orchard at Hervines Park, burnt to a stump last week.

"Some mindless individual/s set fire to the mini beast hotel destroying both the structure and the habitat within-an absolutely selfish act of vandalism."

Many people and groups responded to the tweet expressing their sadness of the vandalism.

Amersham Town Councillor retweeted the council and said: "I'm so sad that this happened and angry that anyone would consider doing such a dreadful thing.

"My sons really loved looking at the bug hotel on our walks in Hervines."

Another user commented on the increase of such incidents as well as an increase in litter, as more people venture outdoors due to the coronavirus lockdown rules.

They said: "The levels of litter were bad enough, but soul destroying that people take pleasure in doing this.

"Presume the police are too stretched to patrol. Would CCTV make a difference?

"So sad that people want to destroy their own ecosystems."

A fire crew attended to put out the blaze but much damage was still done.

Wycombe Sound, Chiltern Community Forum and CAWC International all retweeted the the council saddened by the news.
