A group of children from Marlow have walked an incredible 366 miles (589 kilometres) to raise money for a preschool.

Students at the Marlow Bottom Preschool walked from the village to Marlow’s twin town of Maryl-Le-Roi in France, which is in the western suburbs of Paris.

The challenge was to collectively walk 466 kilometres (289 miles) to France in 30 days to raise money for the preschool.

But the children and adults taking part managed to achieve this feat in exactly three weeks (21 days).

Marlow Bottom Preschool heavily rely on fundraising to top-up their early years' funding which is received from the Government.

But due to the ongoing pandemic and social distancing requirements, the preschool has been unable to hold its key fundraising events.

The preschool is aiming to raise £2,500 and so far, £2,095 has been accumulated.

“The preschool has been part of the community for a long, long time and the money raised will certainly help pay towards the day to day costs to keep the preschool open for the children.

“The preschool has raised a staggering £2,095 from family, friends, people of the community and local businesses.

“We would like to pay a special thanks to The Shanly Foundation, who made a considerable donation - this leaves us shy of our target, but we hope some last-minute.

“The theme for this year’s events was based around well-being, so during the month of June, the children have been participating in sponsored 466kilometres walkathon to Marlow’s twin town of Maryl Le Roi, France.

“This fits in well with the theme, respected the current social distancing guidelines, and keeps the children and their families safe whilst enjoying some fresh air and new adventures.

The children totted up their daily distance by walking, scooting, and biking, enjoying the fresh air, puddles and sunshine.
