Princes Risborough’s Little Green Bus celebrates is to celebrate its 10th birthday this weekend.

The Risborough Area Community Bus, which takes around 400 passengers across the town and surrounding areas, first took to the road on Monday, July 19, 2010, where it first took just 70 people in its first week.

But as time went on, so did the popularity of the bus and which saw routes to Speen, Bledlow Village, Bledlow Ridge, Great Kimble, Little Kimble, Ellesborough, and Terrick get added to the schedule.

Richard Stevenson, who runs the bus, said: “In addition to scheduled services, we run two or three monthly outings to places of interest and the bus is also available for use by not-for-profit organisations or individuals.

"Both these have also been phenomenally successful - having completed an estimated additional 14,000 passenger journeys during the 10 years.

"The ‘little green bus’ also provides a vital social benefit, best reflected by passenger comments - “I’ve made lots of friends (on the bus) – I know lots more people now than I did know” …“I’ve been to visit my 93-year-old mother – without the bus I would not be able to get there to see her”.

"Sadly, since mid-March, we have had to cancel our scheduled service because of the Covid-19 outbreak.

"But the bus has been used to assist Princes Risborough Town Council’s Risborough Basket scheme in delivering food and other essential items to people in the outlying villages.

"This service has been a lifeline for many and has been hugely appreciated.

"We hope to get back to normal just as soon as possible and carry on providing what has become a vital service to folk in and around Princes Risborough."
