Amersham and Chesham MP Dame Cheryl Gillan has successfully lobbied for her constituents regarding healthy food and beauty parlours.

The Government has paid attention to representations made by Ms Gillan, on behalf of consumers who lobbied for healthy food and also for the reopening of beauty parlours as coronavirus lockdown measures ease.

On food safety, constituents asked Dame Cheryl to make sure that new trade agreements will not permit the importation of chlorine-washed chicken and beef from cattle treated with hormones.

Announcing the members of the new Trade and Agriculture Commission on July 10, the Government reminded consumers that chlorine-washed chicken and hormone fed beef are illegal in the UK.

Ms Gillan said: “ Any changes would have to be approved by Parliament and the Government will not compromise UK standard of high environmental protection, animal welfare and food safety standards”

“ I hope constituents will be reassured by the Government’s declaration.”

Yesterday, July 13, the beauty industry started providing services, after the Government responded to pleas by Dame Cheryl and other Members of Parliament.

Ms Gillan added: “ The industry had been working closely with the Government to set up safe measures so that people can once more use these services.”

“ This is an industry which employs 370,000 people and 90 per cent of them are women.

"It makes sense that they should be able to open, even with a reduced number of treatments, and be able to provide services which their customers want to use.”
