A group of explorer Scouts from High Wycombe took part in several activities for 24 consecutive hours.

Gilwell 24 is a scheme for the Scouts, who are boys and girls aged between 14 and 17-years-old, to do as many activities as possible in the space of the day.

Many scouts from all over the country took part but due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, this year’s Gilwell 24 was done virtually with several activities including drumming, a silent disco, scavenger hunt, quiz, mocktails, bin bag fashion show, star gazing (where a Comet and the Space Station were seen), cooking and origami.

It began on Saturday, July 11 at 10am and last until the following day.

It was done via Zoom.

“The young people really enjoyed all the events and it was great to see them making friends across the county.

“My favourite part was watching the teenagers interact with each other and with the adults particularly when everyone was just chilling and chatting about all sorts of stuff.”

The whole event was supported by Bucks Scout Radio who provided music throughout the event and also the music for the silent disco.

One of the deputy chief commissioners for Scouts in the UK joined one of the Zoom calls and participated in the scavenger hunt.

They said: “One of the pleasures of this volunteering role during this time is the ability to drop in and spend time with amazing young people supported by brilliant adult leaders and volunteers doing amazing things in and around their home.
