The hot weather is making us melt in Bucks, but last night, silent lightning bolts were seen across the county.

This is a sign of more things to come because according to the Chilterns Weather alerts, there is a stronger chance of a thunderstorm this afternoon [August 12], despite temperatures reaching around 33°C.

The heavens are expected to open for around 4pm today with the largest and most volatile of showers due to arrive for around 7pm.

This week has seen some of the hottest weather in the country this year, but this evening with the pending showers, the temperature is expected to drop to around 20°C this evening.

The Met Office also issued a Yellow Warning, as they believe the worst of the thunderstorms will happen for around 5pm today.

What the Met Office has said: 

  • There is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost
  • There is a small chance that fast flowing or deep floodwater could suddenly occur, bringing a danger to life and extensive flooding of homes and businesses
  • There is a slight chance of damage to buildings/structures from lightning strikes, hail, or strong winds
  • There is small chance that spray, sudden flooding, standing water and/or hail will result in rapidly changing, dangerous driving conditions
  • If flooding occurs, road closures are possible, with long delays and cancellations to bus and rail services
  • There is a slight chance power and other essential services, such as gas, water or mobile phone service will be lost

Tomorrow [August 13], is expected to be cloudy with some sun, but temperatures will be a lot cooler, as they’ll be around 25°C.

For Friday, it will be mixed with showers in the morning with the sun due appearing in the afternoon/early evening.

Temperatures will reach a high of 23°C on Friday.

This weekend, however, will be grey and cloudy yet very humid, with temperatures being around 23°C.
