Thousands of students across Buckinghamshire celebrated getting their GCSE results on Thursday.

Year 11 students had an anxious wait because due to the current coronavirus pandemic, students were not able to sit any exams this year.

This meant, that students were going to be based on their predicted grades.

However, thanks to a U-turn from the Government, the grades have been based on teacher assessments, which means students grades could be higher than first predicted.

And many students were jumping for joy when opening their virtual or paper envelopes on August 20.

Students at Khalsa Secondary Academy in Stoke Poges saw their students achieve 77 per cent or higher in both English and maths, whilst 58 per cent of students achieved level five or higher by the same measure.

Headteacher, Chris Drew, commented: “This set of GCSE results is nothing short of remarkable.

“All credit goes to our hard-working students, our dedicated staff and our supportive parents.

“Working together as a team, great things have been achieved.

“I congratulate each and every student, and I wish them every success in the next stage of their school career.”

The Sir William Ramsay School in Hazlemere also celebrated stellar results as 58 of their students were awarded grade nines, which is the highest grade possible.

“In addition, students have coped admirably with the anxiety created by the results process.

“Our students should be proud of their hard work before lockdown. I would like to thank the students, staff, parents, and governors for their dedication and hard work.’

Another school that excelled was Dr Challoner's High School in Little Chalfont as 37 per cent of their students achieved grade nines – a four per cent increase from last year.

Headteacher Alan Roe said: “We are very proud of our wonderful Year 11s, not only for their great results which are a just reward for their superb attitude to work but also because they are great young people.

“The girls are characterised by their dedication, community-spirited approach to life and their wonderfully rich and colourful personalities.

“It has been an enormously challenging year and I would like to thank our incredible staff team for their significant expertise, hard work and care and love for the girls.

I would also like to thank our parents who have been, if anything, even more supportive than ever during the challenges that recent months have brought.”
